About Maria
Maria Framke is a historian of modern South Asia and affiliated with the Research Unit on Voluntariness since January 2023. Based at the University of Erfurt she is the principle investigator of the project „Hidden Histories: Frauen in ländlichen Entwicklungsprogrammen in Indien, c. 1920-1966“, funded by the German Research Foundation. Maria’s research focuses on modern political ideologies, international and non-governmental organizations as well as on humanitarian relief and development work. Her latest publications include the Routledge Handbook of the History of Colonialism in South Asia (Routledge, 2022), co-edited with Harald Fischer-Tiné.
