About Silvan

Silvan Niedermeier is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Chair of North American History, University of Erfurt, and a principal investigator of the DFG-Research Unit on Voluntariness. His research focuses on the fight for the repatriation of Indigenous Ancestral Remains, as well as on the history of racism in the United States and on imperial and colonial history. In 2019, he published The Color of the Third Degree. Racism, Police Torture, and Civil Rights in the American South, 1930−1955  (University of North Carolina Press).

Workshop “From Contested Ownership to (In)Voluntary Returns”

On October 24 & 25, 2024, we are happy to present an international workshop in co-operation with colleagues and research projects from Erfurt and Jena.
